Immediate injury fears were sparked amongst Portugal's ranks after Goncalo Ramos was left limping by a security guard who bundled into him while trying to stop a pitch invader.

Portugal's comfortable 3-0 victory over Turkey led them safely to Euro 2024's knockout stages, but the match was marred by five attempts by pitch invaders trying to get close to Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo previously posed for a photo with young one fan who interrupted play early in the game, with the moment sparking promise amongst other supporters who wanted to gain access to the 39-year-old.

His patience finally seemed to spill over after the game when one fan tried to burst through a ring of stewards in an attempt to snap a photo with Ronaldo.

The individual was unsuccessful in doing so, but his actions prompted a security concern and the steward who fell into Ramos slipped as they rushed to apprehend the invading fan.

Ramos was left in a heap on the floor as his left knee was taken out, but immediately jumped back to his feet and was left grimacing in pain.

The Paris Saint-Germain striker looked uncomfortable as he tried to take a step forward and limped out of view of the camera that had been following Ronaldo's reaction to the melee.

Ramos wasn't involved in the game as he remained an unused substitute but still ended up needing medical treatment following the incident that saw him wiped out by the most unlikely of figures.

His team-mates fumed at how the incident unfolded with Man City star Bernardo Silva slapping his hand to his forehead in surprise as Ramos tried to untangle himself from the steward.

The pitch invader that caused the chaos was eventually tackled by a group of security guards who had struggled to stop intruders getting onto the field throughout the game.

23-year-old Ramos has been an unused substitute in both of Portugal's Euro 2024 games but has hopes of starting against Georgia in the final group match with his side already through to the next stage of the competition.

Ramos will be hoping his injury is nothing serious and can be available for selection with Ronaldo likely to be granted a rest after starting both of Portugal's group games so far upfront.

Five different attempts were made by fans at the game that were trying to get within selfie distance of Ronaldo, with three of the invaders managing to make personal contact with the legend.

Ronaldo was irked by the poor security that constantly failed to protect him and was left stunned when he watched Ramos get injured by one of the security officials.

UEFA are now set to launch an investigation into the farcical scenes that saw Ronaldo approached by multiple supporters during Portugal’s 3-0 demolition of Turkey.

Portugal boss Roberto Martinez said the scenes were a 'concern' after the game and called on supporters to stop running onto the pitch.

He said: ‘It is a concern because today the intentions of the fans were good. But there will be a difficult moment if the intentions are wrong and players are exposed.

‘I don’t think that should happen. Maybe there is a message to the fans that this is not the right way. It is not good that the players are so exposed on the pitch.’
