FIVE OBSERVATIONS FROM BAYERN MUNICH’S DEVASTATING 2-1 LOSS TO REAL MADRID

What a rollercoaster of a game. Euphoria to pure heartbreak.

It didn’t take long to get going

Within the first 15 minutes, there were top scoring chances at both ends. It is almost like both teams thought they needed a goal to survive the first 20 minutes. Clearly, no one was too nervous to go on the attack.

Manuel Neuer was the GOATkeeper, for 80min

Nothing new. The German goalkeeper made several stand out saves to keep Bayern Munich in the match. On top of world-class stops, he distributes the ball better than anyone in the game. Unfortunately, Neuer couldn’t contain the shot leading to Real’s first goal, and a poor ball gave Real the opportunity for the second goal.

An unexpected hero

Alphonso Davies has been the subject of intense criticism in recent years. The Canadian never lived up to his form from that 2020 UCL run and he looks lost at times. It doesn’t help that there are never ending rumors swirling his transfer to Real Madrid. Nevertheless, Davies was Bayern’s hero today.

Real Madrid just can’t lose in the Champions League

No matter what happens, Real Madrid seems to always find a way. There is a reason they have so many titles and you can’t take anything away from their will to win. Although, some could say they had special forces behind tonight’s victory.

VAR isn’t so bad - or is it?

VAR can ruin special moments in football and takes away the joy after every goal when you wait to see if it will be overturned. However, tonight it saved a clear foul that could have costed Bayern Munich the game. Although later, it didn’t reverse de Ligt’s clean goal, which would have equalized the game.
