LUIS ROBERT GETTING ROASTED FOR NOT MAKING THROW ON GAME-LOSING PLAY

The Chicago White Sox suffered another loss Tuesday night, their 63rd of the 2024 season.

The Cleveland Guardians walked off the White Sox on Bo Naylor's ninth inning sacrifice fly, which scored Andres Gimenez. Chicago center fielder Luis Robert Jr., who homered and drove in four runs on the night, did not attempt to throw Gimenez out at home.

Judging by the replay, Gimenez likely would have beaten any throw to the plate, but many have criticized Robert for not even making an effort.

"That, as they say, is mailing it in," one person said.

"How do you not at least try?" asked another.

"I love Luis Robert Jr. but I just can’t defend this," a White Sox fan chimed in.

"Luis Robert Jr has done this far too many times," said a Chicago podcaster. "He’s not getting in shape to throw the ball at all & just conceding that the winning run will score. Andres Gimenez more than likely beats any throw out but it’s all about the effort or lack thereof for me. This isn’t acceptable."

However, at least one other Sox fan did come to the young outfielder's defense.

"People are upset at Luis Robert here for his 'effort.' He had 4 RBIs tonight, over 66% of our total runs. We are 24-63. He feels hopeless because the White Sox are hopeless. Be mad at Jerry or Getz or Grifol. This play is a product of their incompetence," the fan said.

Robert, who made the All-Star Game last year and won a Gold Glove as a rookie in 2020, is under team control through the 2025 season.

This makes him a potential prime trade candidate leading up the deadline at the end of the month as the White Sox try to get the most out of the assets they still have.
