MIAMI MARLINS FIRE SALE UNDERWAY WITH ADDITIONAL BLOCKBUSTER TRADES POSSIBLE

Six weeks into the season and the Marlins' fire sale is already underway.

Fresh off their second postseason appearance in five years, the Miami Marlins are having a disastrous start to the season. Going into Friday's series opener against the Philadelphia Phillies, the Marlins hold a 10-29 record and sit 16.5 games back in the National League East.

With the Marlins unlikely to make the playoffs, a fire sale felt inevitable.

The Marlins sell-off officially began last week with Luis Arraez being traded away to the San Diego Padres. In exchange for the two-time batting champion, Miami received three prospects and a reliever to boost their farm system.

There is a good chance that the Arraez trade will be the first of many for the Marlins at the trade deadline.

Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY has reported that the next Marlins player likely to be traded could be Jazz Chisholm Jr. Chisholm is batting .236/.314/.400 with five homers, 20 RBI and eight stolen bases over 38 games. The 26-year-old is under team control through 2026 and could be used as an outfield or utility option.

Other potential trade candidates for the Marlins are starting pitchers Jesus Luzardo and Braxton Garrett and reliever Tanner Scott, as well as infielders Josh Bell and Tim Anderson.

Luzardo, who went on the 15-day injured list late last week with elbow tightness (just the latest Marlins pitcher dealt an injury blow), received a lot of attention during the offseason. The 26-year-old left-hander posted a 3.58 ERA in 32 starts covering 178 2/3 innings of work last season. He could certainly still be a coveted trade target if he returns to health, given that he is under team control for two more years.
