NFL DRAFT PICK ASKED IF BEING WHITE WILL 'PREVENT' HIM FROM GETTING OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY

The Philadelphia Eagles entered draft weekend with a clear goal in mind: improve it defensive backs corps.

Through the first two days of the 2024 NFL draft they've done just that. In the first round the Eagles patiently waited as the draft's top corner prospect landed in their laps at No. 22. Trade-happy general manager Howie Roseman didn't have to swing a deal to land Toledo corner Quinyon Mitchell in the first round.

Just a day later, though, Roseman was working the phones to trade up for Iowa star Cooper DeJean. Seen as a first-round talent heading into the draft, just about everyone was surprised to see Dejean still on the board heading into the second round.

The Eagles traded both of their second-round picks, No. 50 and No. 53 and a fifth-rounder to the Washington Commanders for pick No. 40 and No. 78. Philadelphia promptly used pick No. 40 on the first-team All American defensive back.

Not long after being drafted by the Eagles, DeJean met with the media and received a very odd question.

"As you know there haven't been many white starting cornerbacks in the NFL in a long time. Do you think that will prevent you from getting that opportunity?" a reporter asked.

DeJean handled the situation with grace, even though he was clearly thrown by the question. "I mean if they put me out there I'll be thrilled to play out there," he said.

What do you think of the question?
