THE NFL HAS MADE FINAL DECISION ON ITS OFFICIAL FOOTBALL

The NFL has made plenty of changes over the last 80-plus years, but its choice of football has remained the same.

The NFL and Wilson Sporting Goods announced Thursday that they have reached a multi-year agreement to continue their partnership.

Wilson has produced the league's official football since 1941. Back then, the league had just 10 teams, the Rams were in Cleveland, the Cardinals were in Chicago and there was a franchise named the Brooklyn Dodgers.

“The NFL’s time-honored partnership with Wilson Sporting Goods Co. is integral to our past, present and future, with ‘The Duke’ at the forefront of every NFL game played since 1941,” NFL vice president of consumer products Ryan Samuelson said in a statement. “Renewing and expanding our relationship with a partner so ingrained into our culture is paramount for the league to continue to grow the game and the opening of the new football factory is a testament to Wilson’s commitment to NFL football.”

As always, Wilson's game balls will be emblazoned with commissioner Roger Goodell's signature and "The Duke," an ode to former New York Giants owner Wellington Mara.

So, as the league continues to experiment with rule changes and uniform innovations, the object that the entire sport remains based around will remain unchanged.
