REPORT: ALABAMA PAYING NICK SABAN $500,000 FOR HIS NEW JOB

Nick Saban's time as the head coach of Alabama's football team is officially over. His days of collecting checks from the university, however, are not.

It was reported this Thursday by the Tuscaloosa News that Saban will earn $500,000 as an advisor for the Crimson Tide.

This is a huge step down from Saban's $11 million salary as a head coach, but it never hurts to add $500,000 to your bank account.

Saban's administrative role is still somewhat of a mystery, but Alabama hasn't been shy about him hanging around the program for at least the next year.

Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne talked about Saban's new role with the program during an appearance on "The Paul Finebaum Show" in January.

“He is going to be an advisor for us," Byrne said, via Tuscaloosa News "He’s been awesome. He and I talked during the coaching search. I mean, somebody asked me, 'Was he involved?' I was like, ‘Man, I’m not very smart.' Many people know that, but I’m smart enough to know when you have a chance to have Nick Saban involved with talking about coaching and football and decision-making and leadership, shame on me if I don’t take advantage of that."

It's going to be very interesting to see how Alabama looks in the post-Saban era, especially since he'll be around to offer his thoughts.

Alabama will begin its 2024 season on Aug. 31 against Western Kentucky.
