UTAH HAS OFFICIALLY NAMED ITS NEXT HEAD FOOTBALL COACH

Utah's football program has officially named its next head football coach.

Monday morning, the Utes announced their coach-in-waiting, who will ultimately replace head coach Kyle Whittingham, whenever he retires or leaves.

ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel first reported the news on Monday.

"Utah is naming defensive coordinator Morgan Scalley as the successor to longtime coach Kyle Whittingham. Scalley will make at least $5 million per year as head coach when he’s elevated, per his latest contract. There’s no set timetable for Whittingham to leave," he reported.

"This marks Scalley’s second stint as the program’s coach-in-waiting. The school rescinded the title in 2020 after an external investigation into the use of a racial slur in a text message."

Whittingham, 64, has been Utah's head coach since the 2005 season. He's gone 162-79 since taking over the program.

Utah is set to join the Big 12 Conference this fall and the Utes are expected to contend at the top of the league, hoping to make a College Football Playoff run.

Perhaps this will be the final year of the Kyle Whittingham era at Utah.
