  • LISTEN to It's All Kicking Off! The Luke Shaw call by Gareth Southgate has been an absolute stinker! It was another mistake and left England so lopsided

Mail Sport's football expert Chris Sutton has labelled Gareth Southgate's decision to take Luke Shaw to Euro 2024 as an 'absolute stinker' in the latest episode of the It's All Kicking Off! podcast.

England have looked underwhelming, listless and unconvincing so far in Germany, narrowly edging out a 1-0 win over Serbia before disappointingly drawing 1-1 against Denmark on Thursday.

Right-footed defender Kieran Trippier has deputised at left-back for Luke Shaw as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury on a personal programme, having not played a minute of action for England or Manchester United since mid-February.

Ahead of the Three Lions' final group stage game against Slovenia on Tuesday, Sutton criticised Southgate's call to include the left-back in his 26-man squad for Germany, claiming that England look 'lopsided and unbalanced' in their attacking patterns of play.

Co-host Ian Ladyman had some sympathy with Southgate, claiming the England manager 'doesn't exactly have another left-back to call upon' and was well within his right to 'take one gamble' in his final camp for Germany.
