MARC GUIU: CHELSEA CONFIRM £5M SIGNING OF BARCELONA WONDERKID

Chelsea have confrmed the signing of Barcelona teenager Marc Guiu.

The Blues took advantage of hesitance in contract negotiations between the Catalan giants and their young striker to agree personal terms with the 18-year-old forward before triggering his modest £5million release clause.

Guiu is understood to have turned for a new offer from Barcelona to move to Stamford Bridge. He has signed a five-year deal which includes a further 12-month option.

Upon confirmation of the move, Guiu said: “It's an immense joy to sign for Chelsea and I struggled to sleep ahead of the journey here because I was so excited.

“Ever since I was small, it was my dream to play in the Premier League. Now I have the opportunity to come here to Chelsea and I will work my hardest to be successful for the club.”

Guiu scored just 23 seconds into his La Liga debut for Barcelona, coming off the bench to notch the winner in a 1-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao in October 2023.

The highly rated Spanish starlet made seven first team appearances for Barcelona in his senior breakthrough campaign.

Guiu’s arrival is not expected to satisfy the club’s search for a new striker, with Lille’s Jonathan David of interest, as the teen talent is understood to be regarded as a great value for money recruit given his release fee.

Chelsea would be expected to continue their bid to add further power to their forward line.
